Guidelines summary
- It is important to retain Boughton's village character, which offers residents a tranquil place to live. It is only suitable for small scale industrial, business and residential development in line with Restricted Infill Village policies in the LP.
- New and existing businesses should be 'good neighbours' in all senses.
- Older buildings may be sensitively converted for appropriate business or light industrial use, but should be of high quality design.
- Historic boundaries should be retained, especially drystone walls.
- Protect trees and hedgerows.
- Plant native species of trees and hedgerows.
- Protect Wildlife.
- Respect the ancient settlement patterns.
- Respect the views within and out of the village as shown on the map on pages 8 & 9.
- Integrate new development carefully.
- Preserve important open spaces.
- Conserve the older fabric of buildings with appropriate treatment and materials.
- Conserve original features in order to save Boughton’s heritage.
- New buildings should respect the heritage of the village and be in sympathy with neighbouring properties according to the area.
- Highways, signs, paths, street furniture and fittings should suit the local rural context.
- Street lighting or property lighting should be appropriate to the rural location and not create light pollution.
- Traffic calming measures should be appropriate to the rural setting and not be 'urbanised'. The use of humps and rumble-strips is considered inappropriate.
